Like many of our new students, Sandra Downes had no previous body piercing experience before starting a course with us. Sandra enrolled as our first ''Pay As You Go'' training student. Not having much money at the time Sandra took the 5 Day Professional Course over an extended period of time, rather than in one straight 5 day block. Sandra completed the course in 4 weeks and was so thrilled with her new skills, that she opted to enroll onto an advanced two day surface piercing course.
After completion of the course Sandra had undertaken over 40 piercings all documented in her Pierce Artist Portfolio. With this in hand, Sandra applied to local salons for work and within a week, Sandra was offered a job as the lead piercer in a large tattoo studio in Wigan .
Full Name: Sandra Downes.-Job Title: Body Piercer. - Location: Isleworth, Middlesex. - What did you do before body piercing: I worked in embalming. - When did you decide you wanted to be a piercer: After I got my first piercing, I was about 16 years old.
Why did you want to become a piercer: I like the idea of giving people something beautiful and different. - How did you hear about Pierce Artist: I first found out about Pierce Artist on the web. - Why did you choose pierce Artist as your training provider: After doing my research in was clear that the staff there had a lot of background knowledge about the industry. - You took the ''Pay As You Go'' course, and then matured onto other modules, how did that work out for you: I didn't have a lot of money at the time, so doing the course ''Pay As You Go'', worked out well for me. The course went really well I did the 4 Day Course and an Observation day over the period of a month and then came back and did a surface piercing course as well.
What was the most important thing you needed to leave with to call the training a success: I wanted to leave the course with skills to get a job. And that was definitely accomplished. Pierce Artist were very helpful, giving me support and help in the methods to gain employment after the course. I contacted 5 tattoo facilities and got a job a week after leaving the course.
Were your goals met by the course: Every single one. - How did you find the teaching techniques of Tracy Perkins: I found Tracy amazing, there's no doubt, that lady really knows what she's doing. What was it like piercing for the first time: Nerve racking!! couldn't stop shaking -What piercing did you most enjoy and which piercing did you find the most difficult: I most enjoyed the surface piercing course, after learning the basic on the first course, I found it quite easy, the results were fantastic and the models were really happy. I found the hardest piercing was the lip with a ball closure ring. It's quite a technical piercing when done properly.
How was it using the Pierce Artist toolset: They have been designed by the top body piercer in Europe and you can tell. The are comfortable, easy to use and provide a level of safety and accuracy that helps a novice like me do fantastic work. - You have just started work, how are things going: Couldn`t be better, its all in the early stages at the min but its going great. - What feedback are you getting from the customers you have pierced: The feedback has been great, I get customers remarking that I'm gentle and quick and very professional, they have started to recommend me already. - How do you see your future as a body piercer: I see it as a long and successful future. - Have you had any contact with the Pierce artist team since leaving the course: Yeah, I can't keep away. - As a person who had never pierced anyone before, what advice would you give to anyone looking to get into the industry: Don't look elsewhere, go to Pierce Artist and they will help you every step of the way. - Many people have said it is not possible to get a person piercing well in the period of time that it took you.What would you say to these people: Well I would say. LOOK AT ME. I'm living proof..
