On May 18th Tracy Perkins and Tim Williams the directors of Pierce Artist set off on an exploratory weekend to New York to visit some old clients, make some new friends and check out the New York Tattoo and Piercing Convention. First stop was Grenwich village to visit the thriving piercing community and to see what New York's finest thought about the Pierce Artist brand of signature body piercing instruments. So along with our European Distributor Tony Crane of Barber of Sheffield, we set off along West 4th Street in Grenwich Village to visit the Mecca of New York Body Piercing and home to some of New York's hottest piercers.

Greenwich Village is generally known as an important landmark on the map of bohemian culture. The neighborhood is known for its colorful, artistic residents and the alternative culture they propagate. Due in part to the progressive attitudes of many of its residents, the Village has traditionally been a focal point of new movements and ideas, whether political, artistic, or cultural. Dozens of other cultural and popular icons got their start in the Village's nightclub, theater, and coffeehouse scene during the 1950s, 1960s, and early 1970s, notably Jimi Hendrix, Simon and Garfunkel, Joan Baez and Nina Simone. In recent days, the Village has maintained its role as a center for movements which have challenged the wider American culture:

Other than a great place to walk around, the first thing you notice when you disembark from the metro is the amount of Body piercing and Ttattoo shops in the Gremwich village area. Our Senior piercer and tools designer Tracy Perkins was eager to get the feedback on her tools from this hardcore of obviously knowledgable locals.
The American piercing industry in dominated by blade piercers rather than the commonly used canular needles more popular in the UK. As Tracys's designs were based on the US Style it was interesteing to see how long we could keep their attention.
The general feedback from the tools was fantastic . We were commonly told that the tools were well made, time saving and definitily had a place in the professional market. Job done...Time to do a bit of sightseeing.. Before the convention..
One of the great things about New York is It's public transport system. Get a 6 journey one day (Metro) pass for $10 (£5) and you'll be able to visit the majority of the landmarks in a single day. Don't forget tp experience one of the last great free journeys in the modern world. The staten Island Ferry.
The Staten Island Ferry is a huge commuter boat that links the thousands of people that commute each day from Staten Island to Manhatten. The boat goes past The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and provides an absolutely amazing panaramic view of the Manhatten skyline. If you have the opportunity to do the trip in the early evening, it's a must, to see the skyline lite up.
